10 Kidnapped On Way Home After Voter Cards Registration
Ten people were reportedly kidnapped in Kogi State while returning home after registering for their voter cards.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. on Friday along the Dekina–Ajiyolo–Anyigba Road.
Residents said the victims, mostly from Abocho and nearby communities, had hired a bus to take them to Dekina, the local government headquarters, for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise but on their way back, their bus was attacked by gunmen.
It was gathered that troops from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Lokoja, working with local vigilantes, later chased the kidnappers. Their efforts made the gunmen release some of the victims, but they still escaped with about ten others.
An eyewitness said, “The kidnappers tricked us. They released about 31 people, and we thought everyone was free. Before we realised, they had gone far with about ten others, including the driver.”
