100-Level Law Student Emerges OAU SU One-Day President, Harps On Welfarism

Yusuf Taiwo, a 100-level Law student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has emerged the One-Day Great Ife Students’ Union President.

Taiwo who is the current registrar of the freshmen in the Faculty of Law resumed office as the One-Day Great Ife Students’ Union President on Thursday.

Osun Defender recalls that the PRO of the Great Ife Students’ Union, Omisore Elijah on Thursday, December 14th, 2023, announced an opportunity for all OAU students to participate in an initiative themed ‘Claim the President’s Seat for 2 Days.’

“To apply, record one minute video, state why you want to be the one-day president and what you intend to do within 24 hours, must be properly dressed and send the video to the official students Union number,” Elijah stated in the release.

However, while announcing the winner of the One-Day president initiative, the Students Union PRO said, “We are excited to announce the triumphant conclusion of the One-Day President Initiative, an inspiring journey that has showcased the dynamic leadership potential within our vibrant student community. After careful consideration and an enthusiastic review of all entries, we are delighted to introduce you to the winner of this unique and empowering initiative.

“As we celebrate the winner’s success, let us collectively continue to foster a culture of student-driven leadership, collaboration, and community building at Great Ife.

“Congratulations once again to Yusuff Taiwo, aka Legitmedia– our inspiring One-Day President!.”

After assuming office, Taiwo expressed his joy and disbelief at winning the challenge, highlighting his awareness that with God, all things are possible.

He said, “My utmost priority will be to put my people first. I am concerned about the welfarism of Batch B students, especially those yet to resume with impending tests. I have initiated contact with the Dean of Student Affairs to halt tests in classes that might affect them.

“I plan to tour the eight halls of residence of undergraduates with a focus on identifying and resolving facility issues.”

He, however, encouraged students to stay focused on their academic purpose, embody the spirit of Aluta from the Great Ife anthem, and excel in all endeavours.
