The Ondo Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of 16 persons in an accident that occurred on Monday evening at around 8 pm on the Ore-Benin expressway.
The spokesperson of the command, Samuel Ibitoye, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the victims were burnt beyond recognition in the inferno that engulfed their vehicles after a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck.
He added that three people sustained severe injuries, while two others miraculously escaped unharmed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicles may have been transporting fuel, which contributed to the fire that engulfed the vehicles.
