17 Boko haram members killed in Lake chad

Six people, including two soldiers, were killed on Friday night in an attack on the Chadian banks of Lake Chad by the Islamist group Boko Haram, which has lost 17 jihadists killed by the army, have we learned Saturday from security and military sources.

“Two soldiers, three agents of the Waters and Forests and a customs officer were killed in an attack on the night of Friday of the Chadian localities of Moussarom and Ngueleya, located on Lake Chad, a few tens of kilometers to the south of the Baga Sola town, “a security source told AFP.

“After their attack the attackers retreated,” said the source.

“Seventeen elements of Boko Haram have been killed,” said Chadian army spokesman Azem Colonnel on Saturday, who only recognizes three more dead (a soldier, a Water and Forests officer and a civilian). ) in the attack.

The last assault of the Nigerian Boko Haram group on the Chadian side of Lake Chad dates back to July 22: 18 civilians were killed in a village south of Daboua, a sub-prefecture of Chad not far from Niger.

In May 2018, still in Chad, six people, mainly members of the police, had been killed by jihadists from Boko Haram in Gabalami, not far from Kinassarom, on an island in the lake.

Although Chad is relatively less affected by the jihadist group than its neighbor Nigeria, there has been a resurgence of violence perpetrated by Boko Haram in Chad in recent months, after a relative lull.

The Chadian army, part of a mixed multinational force (FMM) that brings together forces from the subregion, and vigilance committees are trying to repel the Boko Haram jihadists who began their breakthrough in Chad in 2015.

The group from Nigeria strikes in all the countries of the Lake Chad zone (Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Niger), where it commits deadly attacks, attacks against the police, and carries out kidnappings.

The jihadist insurgency, which began in Nigeria in 2009, left at least 27,000 people dead and caused a serious humanitarian crisis with 1.8 million displaced.
