17 Palestinians Killed As Israeli Troops Fire Near Gaza Aid Site

At least 17 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured on Tuesday when Israeli forces opened fire near an aid distribution site in central Gaza, according to local health authorities.

The incident occurred as thousands of displaced people gathered near a humanitarian centre operated by a U.S.-backed organisation in the Wadi Gaza area.

Local medics confirmed that the wounded were taken to Al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat camp and Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City.

The Israeli military claimed its troops had fired warning shots at “suspects” approaching what it described as a sensitive area that posed a threat. It maintained that the shots were fired several hundred metres from the distribution site, before it opened.

While the military disputed the casualty figures released by local officials, it acknowledged that people were injured in the shooting. It also described the area as dangerous for Israeli personnel.

The shooting comes a week after the military warned Palestinians to avoid roads leading to Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid centres between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., designating those routes as “closed military zones.”

Just last week, at least 27 Palestinians were killed near a food distribution centre in Rafah, also by Israeli fire, during what officials called the third consecutive day of chaos affecting aid efforts.

The latest violence occurred hours after the Israeli military announced the deaths of three of its soldiers during combat in northern Gaza, where it continues a long-running offensive against Hamas militants.
