The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the National Programme for Food Security (NPFS) and other donor agencies foresees food crises in 2018 in seventeen states. The FG said the report is aimed at helping the government take necessary steps to combating the foreseen food crisis and emergency situation in the country.
The report projected that about 4.8 million Nigerians may face critical food insecurity situations in 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2018. While analysing the in a stakeholder meeting on Friday, November 3 in Abuja, Sufyyan Koroma, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Country Representative, said it has become necessary to provide reliable data on food security status in 16 states and FCT.
In the lists, the following states are predicted to be affected by the crisis, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and the FCT.
