An 18-year-old man, Mustapha Adamu Isa (Abbati) was on Thursday, paraded by the Gombe State Police Command for allegedly killing the late Aishatu Abdullahi (Adda Damori), a 58-year-old last Saturday in her matrimonial home.
Osun Defender reports that the late mother of eight children was slaughtered in her bedroom around 09:30 p.m. on the sad day.
The spokesperson for the command, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, disclosed that the suspect was arrested last Sunday around 01:30 pm in connection to the case following credible intelligence received by the investigative team headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, SCID Gombe.
According to ASP Abubakar, the suspect sneaked into the deceased room in search of his spanner, which she had earlier seized from him.
He added that late Aishatu met the suspect in her room when she returned from a neighbour’s house and asked him to leave her room.
“But he refused to leave and a scuffle ensued between them, which resulted in him strangling and killing her with a knife and escaped through the toilet to an unknown destination, leaving behind his stained shirt and knife but managed to escape with the spanner, which was later recovered from him,” he said.
Speaking with newsmen, the suspect said he was in Damori’s room to take a spanner to fix a motorcycle brought to the mechanic’s garage, which is located at the frontage of the house.
“It was my first time committing such a crime and I don’t know what came over me to kill her because she was the mother of my friend. I found the knife in her room and used it to stab her severally and later slaughtered and left with the spanner,” Abbati said.
The command’s PPRO stated that the spanner, blood-stained shirt of Abbati and the knife were recovered as exhibits.
