A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Abdu Danbaffa of Bilbiya village was on Wednesday, sentenced to seven years in prison for cutting off his friend’s hand.
Danbaffa was sentenced by the Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Ibrahim Umr, said on January 11, 2024, one Usman Umar reported to the state CID Division that “Muhammad Abdu cut off his right-hand palm due to some misunderstanding you had on December 12, 2023, that led to a fight.”
According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 221 of the Borno State penal code law.
The defendant pleaded guilty as charged when the FIR was read to him.
In his judgement, the presiding magistrate, Alhaji Saleh Isa, fined the defendant, Muhammed Danbaffa, N100,000 as compensation to the victim or an option of seven years imprisonment.
