2018: Osun PDP Begins Move to Reconcile Factions

— Sets up Committee

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State of Osun seems to be waking up to the reality of 2018 governorship election, as it has begun move to reconcile the two major factions of the party.

A reconciliation committee of 18 members has been set up to settle the differences between the Honourable Soji Adagunodo and Dr Bayo Faforiji’s factions.

Adagunodo’s group which belongs to the Ali-modu Sheriff national faction has its state Secretariat at the Biket Area, Ikirun Road, Osogbo, while the Faforiji’s group which belongs to the Ahmed Makarfi faction has its Secretariat at 7up area, Ibadan road, Osogbo.

Two chieftains of the PDP confided in OSUN DEFENDER that the reason for the reconciliation move is to have a united party ahead of the 2018 governorship election to be able to wrestle power from the All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to the party leaders, it has dawn on the warring factions that the PDP could not win the 2018 election with a divided house, hence they needed to come together and have a formidable party ahead of the poll.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the reconciliation committee has nine members from each of the two factions.

Former Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government, Mr Ibukun Fadipe, former chairman of Obokun Local Government, Mr Mayowa Adejorin, Alhaji Alidu Tiamiyu from Iwo and Mr Abiodun Ojo (Fafa), among others were selected from the Adagunodo’s faction.

Faforiji’s faction has Hon Ismaila Kolawole, Tayo Omojongbe, former Commissioner of Finance in the state, Mr Adetoyese Ojo and former Minister for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan and others in the committee.

The committee, according to the sources, met on Monday and agreed that no member of the party should defect and that there is no perfect party congress in politics.

The committee also accepted Senator Iyiola Omisore as a leader of the party and that all media war should be directed to the ruling party and not members of the PDP.

But the committee has not come up with term of reference for the reconciliation.
