As the 2019 general elections beckon only three political parties seem to be ready to feature candidates for all elective posts in the state of Osun.
Among those fielding candidates for the February 2019 elections include; the Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which claimed to have entered into an agreement with the ruling party in the state does not seems ready to present candidates for the elections.
The APC candidates for the three Senatorial Districts, the medium gathered are; Engineer Adelere Oriolowo (West), Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, (East), and Dr Ajibola Basiru (Central).
In the same vein, the ADP features Prince Dotun Babayemi, (West), Otunba Lai Oyeduntan, (Central) and Dr. Wale Bolorunduro (East) while the PDP features Chief Francis Fadahunsi (East), Alhaji Ganiyu Ola-Oluwa (Central) and Akogun Lere Oyewumi (West).
In the House of Representatives election, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Oluomo Sunday Akere of the ADP would slug it out with PDP’s Clement Ademola and the incumbent member of the House, Hon. Femi Fakeye, while Hon. Kamil Oyedele of APC is set to lock horn with Alhaji Maroof Adewale of PDP for Osogbo/Olorunda/Irepodun Federal constituency seat.
In Ikire Federal Constituency, Mrs Taiwo Oluga is the APC’s candidate, while the ADP is said to be featuring Hon. Soji Ajayi and for Ife Federal Constituency Hon. Folorunso Bamisaye would battle candidates Hon. Albert Adeogun of the PDP.
Hon. Rasheed Olalekan Afolabi as the party’s candidate for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, with candidates of the PDP and the ADP, while in Ijesha North the APC is fielding Hon. Nathaniel Agunbiade against the incumbent Hon. Oluwole Oke.
The ADP had earlier issued a statement that it would contest all the post available in the 2019 election as well as the House of Assembly. Recently a chieftain of the party, Oluomo Akere disclosed that the party had fielded candidates for all the 26 House of Assembly seats, as well as the nine House of Representatives.
However, the SDP has failed to field candidates for any of the election, as at the time of filing this report as the party is said to have entered into an agreement with the APC for the development of the state.
Many of the party members were said to be grudging over the said agreement the party’s chieftain entered into with the APC.
However, the medium reached out to the party chairman in the state, Dr. Bayo Faforijin who declined comment on the issue saying the party would wait until the pact it had with APC is consummated. he also declined to reveal the detail of the deal.
Speaking with newsmen at the Osun West ADP secretariat in Iwo, the party’s candidate in the just concluded governorship election in the state, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the party’s primary.
Alhaji Adeoti who described the system that led to the choice of Omooba Dotun Babayemi as purely democratic said that ADP would not give chances to imposition.
He implored residents of Osun West Senatorial District to support the party for more democratic dividends.
