The alliance between the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has taken a twist, as the former features candidates for both the state and National legislative elections in the state.
According to Osun Defender’s investigation a total number of twenty-six candidates of the SDP would run for different posts in the forthcoming 2019 general election the state.
According to one of the candidates of the party contesting for the Senatorial ticket of Osun East, Sooko Kemade Elugbaju, the party features candidates for various elective posts in the forth coming election, as Senator Iyiola Omisore’s alliance with APC “did not deter any of our party members to seek election into other political positions”.
He stated further that the Osun people should know that an individual decision is not binding on other party members.
Kemade added that the party had submitted the names of the following candidates through the National Secretariat of the party to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
For the House of Assembly in Irepodun/Orolu state constituency, Hon. Sodiq Adediran; Boripe/Boluwaduro state constituency, Hon Tayo Olawoye; Ife North state constituency, Hon Mathew Babarinde. In Osogbo state constituency, the party has Hon Olagunju Olaniyan; Ife East, Hon Makinde Olasunkami; Ejigbo, Barrister Sikiru Ojelade and in Ife Central, Hon Samson Adelugba.
Others include, Atakumosa East/West, Hon Oluwaseyi Olowookere; Ifedayo, Hon Oladeji Onifade; Ilesa East, Hon Oluwadare Ogedengbe; Egbedore, Chief Mrs Toyin Popoola; Ifelodun, Kolawole Kamarudeen; Ila, Taofik Oyeniyi; Ayedaade, Mathew Amusan; Odo-Otin, Ajiboye Akinyemi; Ilesa West, Osuolale Felix; Olorunda, Saheed Akinloye; Oriade, Jonathan Ajibola Oni; while it features Elder Moses Oladipupo for Irewole/Isokan.
It was noted that where Omisore wields much influence than the party, it did not feature candidates for House of Assembly election ans such areas include Iwo, Obokun, Ede North, Ede South, Ayedire, Ife South and Ola-Oluwa respectively.
Also, for the House of Representatives election, the party features five candidates out of the nine federal constituencies in the state namely, Irewole/Ayedaade/Isokan federal constituency with Toyosi Oluwole Ayobami as its candidate; Iwo/ Olaoluwa/ Ayedire has Engineer Adesoye Ogungboyega; Ila/Ifedayo/Boluwaduro with Akin Kola Balogun; Ife East/South/Central/North has Sooko Kemade Elugbaju and Osogbo/Olorunda/Irepodun/Orolu features Hon. Femi Kolade .
The party also features two senatorial candidates in the state namely Hon Ayotunde Olowofoyeku for Osun-East Senatorial district and Otunba Ayotunde Babatunde for Osun Central, while it did not present any candidate in Osun West Senatorial district.
