Ahead of the next month’s general elections in the country, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun Command has reiterated the determination of the Corps to maintain law and order at all times.
The NSCDC Boss assured residents of the state of peaceful general elections.
Commandant Agboola Sunday made this assurance during his briefing with the Management, Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across the state, where he spoke on the preparedness of the Corps towards the forthcoming general elections in the country and the need for personnel to double down on their efforts by putting in their best to see that the Corps contributes to maintaining peaceful during the polls.
The NSCDC boss hinted that electoral code of conduct for security personnel empowers officers on election duty to arrest and investigate whoever disrupts electoral process and such offender would be handed over to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for prosecution. He, therefore sends a warning signal to anyone who is planning to disrupt the forthcoming general elections to have a change of mind, or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
He also revealed that personnel of the Corps are undergoing series of trainings and retrainings so as to discharge their electoral duties with high sense of professionalism.
Commandant Agboola who stressed further, charged the Area Commanders and Divisional officers to strengthen their operational capabilities.
He emphasized the need for actionable intelligence and massive deployment of personnel for the elections.
He also affirmed that the Command has beefed up security at the INEC offices throughout the state, in order to ensure that the facilities are not attacked by criminally minded people .
According to him, ‘’all heads of security agencies in the state have had series of meetings. We have been able to map out strategies towards the success of the forthcoming general elections. Our collaboration is strong and Osun residents would perform their civic responsibilities in a peaceful atmosphere without being harassed,” Commandant Agboola said.
He, therefore, called for the support of all and sundry, noting that everyone must work towards the success of the elections. Commandant Agboola advised that all hands must be on deck to ensure the elections is free, fair and credible.
