2026: APC Group Canvasses Zoning Party Ticket To Osun West After Basiru’s Declaration
Less than 24 hours after one of the contenders for the 2026 governorship ticket of the APC in Osun, Senator Ajibola Basiru, officially launched his political platform, Alubarika Movement, a group within the party has asked the leadership to zone the governorship ticket to Osun West Senatorial District.
The group, operating under the aegis of Osun West Crusaders, staged a peaceful demonstration at the party secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, insisting that the district must produce the next governor, having been marginalised for the past 26 years.
The protesters, who carried banners with inscriptions advocating zoning, submitted a formal request to the Osun APC Director of Administration and Finance, Aremu Tajudeen, urging party stakeholders, including President Bola Tinubu, former Governor Bisi Akande, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, and Senator Ajibola Basiru, to support their demand.

Addressing the press before the submission, the group’s coordinator, AbdulGafar Blessing, noted that Osun West had remained a stronghold of progressive politics from the days of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the present APC and deserved a fair chance in the governorship race.
Meanwhile, Senator Basiru’s Alubarika Movement, launched in Osogbo on Sunday, has further shaped discussions within the APC as the battle for the party’s ticket intensifies.
Speaking at the event, Basiru hinted that the party might adopt consensus in picking its candidate, a stance that has drawn mixed reactions from party members, especially those advocating zoning.
