The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has faulted a statement by Mr Sunday Akere, one of the loyalists of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, that the party has taken a position on where it will zone its 2026 gubernatorial ticket.
Akere, who is a former Special Adviser on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs in the state had reportedly said Osun West Senatorial District will produce the governorship candidate of the party.
The party however, in a statement by Chief Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information, said Akere’s assertion was not the position of the party and should be disregarded as a mere personal opinion.
The statement further read, “The story credited to a chieftain of the party who is a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Honourable Sunday Akere, few days ago, as published in some traditional and social media, that the party has zoned its 2026 governorship slot to the Osun-West Senatorial District of the state was not the position of the party and should be disregarded as it was a mere personal opinion of the chieftain of the party.
“The decision on where the next governorship candidate of the party will spring up from is not such that can be taken under the table to the effect that it shall be made public to all the stakeholders of the party.
“Our members should discountenance the statement as it was his personal opinion on the choice of where the APC is zoning its governorship slot from with respect to the 2026 elections.

“It is needless for the members and supporters of our party to have sleepless nights on the issue as it remains a yet-to-be treated programme which process would be as transparent as ever when the time for it arises.
“We commend the spirit of our numerous members and supporters who have been calling ceaselessly through telephone and physically in order to know the true position of the party on the issue.
“Let’s continue to work ceaselessly and assiduously for the progress and eventual victory of our party at the polls in 2026 in the overall interest of the people of the state.”
