Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Mr Benedict Alabi, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing divine direction as the foundation of his ambition.

Alabi made the declaration on Sunday during a special thanksgiving service held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Lagere, Ile-Ife, where he addressed congregants and party loyalists who had gathered to witness the moment.

The Ikire-born politician, who served as the deputy to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, said his decision followed extensive spiritual reflection and guidance from God.

“In all I do, I seek the face of God. I have received direction and I am here to inform the good people of Osun that I will be offering myself to serve as governor come 2026. We shall emerge victorious by God’s grace, and we are committed to the progress and prosperity of Osun State,” Alabi told the congregation.

His declaration comes at a time when there are mounting agitations within the APC for the party’s governorship ticket to be zoned to Osun West Senatorial District, where Alabi hails from.

The call has gained traction particularly as stakeholders await the final decision of former Governor Oyetola on whether he would contest again.
