2027: ADC-Led Coalition A Needless Distraction – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has dismissed the proposed political coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as an unserious attempt to distract President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Lagos during an interactive session with journalists and political stakeholders, Sanwo-Olu described the coalition as lacking substance and direction, calling it a “needless distraction” designed to derail national progress.

“Nigerians will never go back to Egypt,” he said, insisting that the country had moved past outdated political ideologies.

He added, “The goal of this coalition is clear — to distract the Commander-in-Chief and obstruct the tangible social and economic progress being achieved. But President Tinubu understands the game and remains focused.”

The alliance includes major political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former governors Nasir el-Rufai and Rauf Aregbesola. But Sanwo-Olu dismissed their grouping as a collection of “discontented actors,” not a viable alternative to the current administration.

He said Tinubu’s government had delivered measurable results, citing foreign exchange stabilisation, student loans, increased state revenues after subsidy removal, tax reforms, improved oil output, and infrastructure upgrades, including efforts to review minimum wage.

“President Tinubu is not just a leader but a nation-builder. His legacy of empowerment and vision continues to drive meaningful change across Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

When asked whether the APC felt threatened by the coalition, he replied, “There is no need for concern. Nigerians are discerning. They recognise real leadership and results when they see them. The record speaks louder than political noise.”

He echoed comments by presidential aides who previously branded the coalition as a gang of “political desperados” and “internally displaced politicians.”

“They offer no new vision, only grievances. Their alliance is rooted in opposition to the President, not in any meaningful ideology. Such efforts will collapse under their own contradictions,” Sanwo-Olu added.

Offering a message to the President, he said, “Stay the course. Millions of Nigerians, across party lines, understand the complexities of governance. They trust his leadership and are solidly behind him.”

He urged citizens to stay focused and not be distracted from the administration’s development goals.
