2027: APC Chieftain Raises Alarm Over Mass Defection To ADC In Northern Nigeria

A former federal lawmaker and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has expressed deep concern over what he described as a worrisome rate of defections from the ruling party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Garba, who voiced his concern in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, stated that the growing movement towards the newly formed opposition coalition poses a significant threat to the future of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The rate at which members of PDP and APC are resigning to join the ADC in the North is alarming. I think it is high time we, the members of APC, start writing our affirmation letters confirming our unwavering commitment to the membership of our party,” he wrote.

His remarks come amid growing speculations that key political figures across party lines are aligning with the ADC in what appears to be a strategic coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Among the notable figures reported to be backing the ADC platform are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Anambra State governor Peter Obi, former governors Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The coalition is said to be intensifying grassroots mobilisation with the aim of unseating the APC-led government in 2027.
