2027: Benue Govt Directs Political Appointees Seeking Office To Resign
Political appointees in Benue State with intentions to contest elective offices have been directed to declare their ambitions and resign their appointments formally.
The directive was contained in a statement endorsed by the Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Dr Sam Ode.
He urged all affected officials to comply with the order without delay.
The development comes amid growing political manoeuvring and rising indications of interest in various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The state government said all concerned appointees are required to submit written notices stating the offices they intend to contest.
The notices are to be forwarded alongside their resignation letters to the Office of the Deputy Governor.
The deadline for submission has been fixed for Thursday, December 18, 2025.
According to the statement, all documents received will be transmitted to Governor Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormen Alia for review and further action.
The administration explained that the move is aimed at promoting discipline, transparency and sustained focus within government as it pursues its policy and development objectives.
