2027: I’ll End Corruption In One Month Or Resign – Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to eradicate corruption within his first month in office if elected president in 2027, promising to resign if he fails.
Speaking during an X Space session titled Weekend Politics on Friday, Amaechi outlined plans for sweeping reforms, including amending the constitution and replacing Nigeria’s indigeneship system with universal citizenship rights.
“If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation,” he declared, stressing his commitment to transformative governance.
Amaechi also challenged the current Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to walk the streets of Port Harcourt to test who enjoys greater public support.
He accused powerful individuals of routinely looting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), saying stolen funds could solve the country’s security and economic problems if properly managed.
The former governor further criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, describing him as the “worst” in Nigeria’s history over alleged electoral mismanagement.
On fuel subsidies, Amaechi pledged to sustain the removal policy but assured that savings would be channelled to benefit ordinary Nigerians instead of the elite.
“The savings from subsidies must go directly to the people, not into the pockets of a few,” he said, promising transparency and equitable distribution.
His remarks have stirred debate on X, with users questioning the feasibility of his anti-corruption pledge and reacting to his criticism of political figures.
