2027: Lagos NURTW Chairman Declares War On Residents Opposing APC

Tension is rising in Lagos following a viral video of the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, openly threatening residents ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In the footage, which surfaced on Thursday, Sego was heard declaring war on any Lagosian who votes against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that such individuals would face “severe punishment.”

He further boasted that the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, when APC lost Lagos, would never be allowed to repeat itself.

The remarks have sparked outrage among residents who condemned the threats as an attempt to intimidate voters and undermine democracy in the state.

Critics accused Sego of hiding under political protection while using the NURTW platform to enforce fear and political dominance.

Many Lagosians have since taken to social media to call for his immediate arrest and prosecution, stressing that the right to vote is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and cannot be subject to threats from individuals or groups.

Some also linked Sego’s threats to a pattern of violence allegedly associated with his allies, including a case of assault and a separate incident of murder that are currently under investigation.

Pressure is now mounting on security agencies to act swiftly to restore public confidence ahead of the 2027 polls.

Residents insist that failure to address Sego’s threats could embolden others to take similar actions, thereby jeopardising free and fair elections in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Lagos State Government nor the leadership of the APC has issued an official response to the development.
