2027: NDC Releases Primary Election Timetable, Sets Presidential Form at N60m
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has released the timetable for its 2027 primary elections, with presidential aspirants expected to pay a total of N60 million for nomination and expression of interest forms.
NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the sale of forms will run from May 13 to May 18 as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party also directed all aspirants to appear for screening with relevant credentials and supporting documents.
“The sale of nomination forms will commence immediately after the screening exercise from Thursday, May 21 to Saturday, May 23, 2026, while completed forms must be submitted on or before Monday, May 25.
“Appeals arising from the screening process will be entertained on May 25 and 26, while primary elections for various elective offices are scheduled to hold on May 27 and 28, 2026.
“The Presidential Primary Election is slated for May 29, 2026, in Abuja,” the statement read.
Cleopas explained that aspirants contesting for state Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants would undergo screening at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
He added that all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s guidelines and code of conduct.
According to him, the party has adopted the open secret ballot system for its primaries to ensure credibility, fairness and internal democracy.
The NDC maintained that its nomination fees are among the lowest charged by major political parties in the country.
Under the approved fee structure, aspirants seeking tickets for state Houses of Assembly will pay N2.5 million for expression of interest and nomination forms, while House of Representatives aspirants are to pay N6 million.
Senatorial aspirants are expected to pay N8 million, while governorship hopefuls will pay N30 million.
“For the presidency, aspirants will pay N20 million for the expression of interest form and N40 million for the nomination, bringing the total cost to N60 million.
“Meanwhile, female aspirants and persons living with disability are to pay 50 per cent and 25 per cent of the fees across all categories.
“The party reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible primary election process capable of producing competent candidates for the 2027 general elections,” Cleopas stated.
