2027: Nigerians Will Vote For Plans, Not Personalities – Akinlade

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, has declared that the 2027 general elections will mark a departure from politics as usual, urging a shift from personality-driven campaigns to issue-based engagements.

Akinlade, in a statement from Abuja, described the next presidential contest as a defining moment for Nigeria’s political maturity, saying, “This time around, it will be policy over personality. Nigerians won’t just vote for who they like, they’ll vote for who has a plan.”

He stressed that voters have become more discerning and will demand workable solutions over rhetoric.

“The next election will be about ideas, not identities. Those who want power must bring clear, workable policies, not just promises.”

According to him, the political environment is becoming more dynamic, with shifting alliances and growing civic awareness making the space more competitive.

He noted that only politicians with real substance and strategy will be able to thrive.

Akinlade, a former chieftain of the PDP and a major voice in Ogun State politics, called on both leaders and citizens to prioritise national interest above personal ambition, urging unity and purpose as the country navigates its democratic future.

“We may be divided by party lines, but the mission is the same: to rescue Nigeria and rebuild it. The country must win, more than any politician or party,” he stated.

He also challenged Nigerian youths to move from criticism to active and informed participation in nation-building.

Speaking on national leadership and the rising wave of defections across political parties, Akinlade offered a sober perspective.

“Defections are not betrayals. They are signals of progress,” he said.

“There is no constitutional crime in switching political allegiance. What matters is the reason. When a platform no longer reflects your mission or your people’s interests, you move.”

He maintained that Nigeria’s transformation will require deep reforms, visionary leadership, and a shared commitment to real change.

“Progress requires patience, unity demands purpose, and the future belongs to those bold enough to build, not just campaign,” Akinlade said.
