2027: Obasa Refutes Governorship Rumours

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has dismissed widespread speculation suggesting he is nursing a governorship ambition.

Obasa made the clarification on Thursday, shortly after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented the 2025 appropriation bill, tagged the Budget of Sustainability, to the State House of Assembly.

Speaking to journalists, Obasa reiterated his commitment to strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

He described the rumors as baseless and the work of detractors determined to twist his efforts at party consolidation into a political ambition.

“I have not seriously considered running for governor,” Obasa said, adding that his priority remains the growth and stability of the party in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu unveiled a ₦3.005 trillion budget for the 2025 fiscal year, designed to sustain the state’s developmental momentum.

The proposal also includes a revenue target of ₦2.597 trillion and a deficit financing plan of ₦408.9 billion.

Breaking down the figures, Sanwo-Olu stated that the budget aims to improve infrastructure, enhance public services, and promote economic sustainability.

The total revenue projection of ₦1.97 trillion is expected to come from internally generated revenue (IGR) and federal transfers amounting to ₦626.1 billion.

During the plenary, the Lagos State lawmakers demonstrated their support for Obasa by passing a unanimous vote of confidence in his leadership.

The Speaker thanked his colleagues for their steadfastness and dedication, describing the gesture as a testament to their collective commitment to the progress of Lagos State.
