Three people died early on Sunday in multiple accidents that occurred around Ilasamaja axis of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos State.
More than eight people, including three drivers and motor boys, were also injured in the accident that created gridlock along the road.
A policeman from Ilasa divisional police station who was drafted to the scene to restore normalcy also had one of his legs fractured in the early morning accident.
It was gathered that a first accident, involving two articulated vehicles fully loaded with vegetable oil and gravel, occurred at about 3:00a.m.
Metro learnt that the police and other law-enforcement officers were trying to control the traffic in the area when another truck rammed into a commercial bus, injuring more than three people, including a policeman.
Metro gathered that a truck loaded with vegetable oil was on a high speed when the driver lost control and rammed into the other from the rear.
The truck reportedly fell on its side while the other one with gravel also blocked part of the highway.
The police and other emergency workers were said to have been deployed to the scene and were trying to evacuate the vehicles and the gallons of vegetable oil on the road when the second incident occurred.
A police source from Ilasa police station told Metro that “the driver of the truck was on a high speed and he disregarded the traffic instruction from our men when he rammed into the commercial bus.”
Metro gathered that the conductor of the commercial bus and two other persons died on the spot, as the bus was said to have somersaulted several times.
