A 33-year-old man identified as Abu Abdulrahman has been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing 64 bags of soya beans in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Police in the state arrested the suspect who is from Kaduna state while trying to run away with the goods.
According to a press statement issued over the weekend by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna.
According to the statement, on 2/12/2023, at about 05:00 hrs, an incident of criminal conspiracy and robbery was reported at Mokwa Division.
“A truck with registration number KMC 613 ZR, loaded with about 700 bags of soya beans from Kano heading to Lagos, reportedly developed a mechanical fault upon reaching Tunga-Ruwa village via Mokwa.”
The statement further explained that “earlier at about 02:30 hrs, a J5 Peugeot vehicle with registration number KJA 127 YC approached the truck spot. A four-man gang, armed with cutlasses and sticks, tied the truck boys and stole some of the soya beans from the truck.”
Furthermore, the PPRO explained, “The said J5 vehicle containing 64 bags was later intercepted by the Police Patrol team around Lafiagi in Mokwa at about 07:00 hrs, and one Abu Abdulrahman, 33 years old, from Mando area of Kaduna State, was arrested while others escaped from the spot.
“During interrogation, the suspect said that they were planning to take the soya beans to Kaduna, and he mentioned one Adamu from Zaria and two others as his gang members, presently at large.”
