40-year-old Man Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Threat To Life

A 40-year-old man, Olamilekan Afolayan, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly threatening to kill one Sikiru Salawu in Ikirun, Ifelodun local government of the State of Osun.
Olamilekan was accused of going around while arming himself with two sharp cutlasses, a stainless knife wrapped with cowries and a piece of red cloth in search of Salawu.
According to the charge sheet obtained by OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday, the defendant committed the offence on September 12, 2022 at about 8:00pm, along Iragibiji road, Ikirun.
The alleged offence contravened Section 86(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of breach of peace and threat to life.
Speaking before the court on the cause of their disagreement, the nominal complainant, Salawu said the defendant accused him of being behind his predicaments.
When asked of his reason, the accused person told the court that the complainant gave him a concoction from a black pot to eat which resulted into episodic insanity.
Defence counsel, O.O Fagbewesa, prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail on a liberal term, promising that a reliable surety will stand for him throughout the trial.
Police prosecutor, Asp Segun Okeniyi, objected the oral bail application by the defence counsel on the ground that the accused person might jump bail.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Abayomi Ajala, ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned till September 28, 2022.
