54-Year-Old Herbalist Arrested With Live AK 47 Ammunition
A 54-year-old herbalist, Lukman Oyeyemi, has been arrested for unlawful possession of live AK 47 ammunition.
The suspect, a resident of Olumofo Dagbolu, Ilobu, Osun State, was arrested by the state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Dr Akintayo Adaralewa, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, while parading the suspect on Wednesday, said the offence contravenes Sections 3, subsection 1 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act.
Adaralewa noted that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
But the suspect, while speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, said he got the live ammunition from a police officer who came to him for traditional bulletproof (Ayeta).
Lukman said the policeman sought his assistance eight years ago when he wanted to travel to Zamafara state to fight bandits.
Asked why the live ammunition was in his possession eight years after, the herbalist said the policeman did not come to collect it back after working on it.
He said, “I was contracted by a policeman to prepare a charm that can guide against penetration of gun.
“I told the policeman to bring live ammunition which I was going to use to prepare the it. The policeman came with the ammunition but he did not come back to collect the charm.
“I did not take it seriously and I just threw the live ammunition somewhere in my apartment for the last eight years.”
