1: Independence: Adeleke Cancels Celebrations, Urges Statewide Prayer For Nigeria

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has cancelled celebration for this year’s Independence Day earlier slated for Sunday, October 1.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, a copy received by Osun Defender, Adeleke noted that Nigerians are going through tough times, urging the people to pray for the continuous peace and prosperity of Nigeria.

The statement said, “Let us use the Independence Day to meditate and pray on the state of our nation. Our people are passing through tough times. It is time to take stock and seek divine intervention and guidance in the affairs of our nation.

2: Disaster Looms In Osun Community Over Mining Activities

There is a looming disaster in Iwoye, a community, Egbedore local government area of Osun State.

Findings by OSUN DEFENDER revealed that activities of miners in the community been posing threats to the wellbeing and natural habitat of the residents of the community.

Iwoye is a community that sits on massive bodies of mineable rock.

Miners in the community, according to findings, now engaged in the use of explosive materials to blast rocks at various quarrying sites.

The explosive materials, it was noted, always vibrate and shake buildings nearby the sites to their foundations.

3: Eripa Residents Protest Bororo’s Invasion Of Farmland

Residents of Eripa, a community in Boluwaduro local government area of Osun on Friday, protested the invasion of some Bororoas into their farmlands.

The residents, who were mostly youths, while protesting at the palace of the community monarch, Oba Samuel Bamidele Oyediran Akinsowon II, demanded the Bororos leave the town.

According to the protesters, the Bororos have been harvesting their farm produce without their consent, adding that they beat up anybody who challenged them.

Speaking with newsmen, the youth leader of the community, Pastor Samuel Adeponle, said the youths are ready to leave the town for the Bororos if nothing is done about it.

He said, “The Bororos are taking over our lands. They are the ones harvesting the crops our people planted.
