News reports that one person was seriously injured in the Satellite Town incident, the fire occurred at the popular former Stepping Stones Comprehensive Girls College, which have been converted to a residential building.
It was gathered that the fire started from one of the converted flats late on Saturday evening and raged till around 1’O clock. Firefighters had a very difficult time in battling the fire as it was said to be very well alive when the safety workers arrived at the burning building.
Though yet to be fully ascertained, the fire was said to have started from a spark as a result of a power surge, which affected the electrical wiring of the building.
Residents of the building battled to put out the fire in vain and it grew uncontrolled for hours, prompting them to call firefighters.
Firefighters could not access the major point of the fire for more than forty-five minutes as a result of what was described as the “nature of the building.”
The fire grew wilder as eleven gas cylinders and seven air condition compressors exploded as the fire spread from one apartment to the other.
A woman, who jumped from one of the floors of the building was injured.
The only unoccupied flat, where WAEC results of former students of the converted school were stored was also burnt in the inferno.
