96-Year-Old Woman Discovered Dead In Kano Soakaway
A 96-year-old woman has been found dead inside a soakaway pit in Sarai Village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.
He said the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one Usman Adamu around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, reporting that an elderly woman had fallen into a toilet pit in the area.
Abdullahi said the rescue team, led by the Director, Sani Anas, arrived at the scene and found the body of the woman, identified as Habiba Ado.
He explained that the deceased had been suffering from mental illness and had been missing for four days before her body was discovered.
“The relatives said they had been searching for her and appealed to the house owner to cover the pit to prevent future occurrences,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that the rescue team recovered the body, but she was confirmed dead and handed over to the Ward Head, Alhaji Musa Muhammad, for burial according to Islamic rites.
