Super Eagles stand-in skipper Ogenyi Onazi has heaped plaudits on the new players in the team for their courage, insisting that they can be relied on to win games.

Coach Gernot Rohr handed nine players their debuts in the two international friendly matches against Corsica and Togo ahead of the 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa. The likes of Chidozie Awaziem, Uche Agbo, Henry Onyekuru, Mikel Agu, Sikiru Olatunbosun, Victor Osimhen, Stephen Odey, Alhassan Ibrahim and Tyronne Ebuehi all bagged their debuts.

Onazi assures that the Super Eagles are prepared and that the South Africans won’t be underrated.

“The team is doing better and credit must go to the coach for this. The Corsica camp was meant for us to blend,” he was quoted as saying.

“The young players introduced into the team have done very well and this is good for us as well in terms of chemistry.”

“The new players have shown they know what to do in several situations on the pitch. Football speaks only one language, so it makes it so easy.

“We have put behind us, the home draw with Bafana In 2014 which denied us a place in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. Our motive now is to win the match on Saturday so it’s a lot easier to qualify for the next AFCON having missed the last two editions of the competition.

“We have done our home work, and we will respect Bafana. We pray God to give us the grace to come out victorious.”
