The Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa I, would on Saturday, March 10 mark the 10th anniversary of his coronation.
Activities lined up for the one-week event, which would start on March 3, include traditional service at Timi’s Palace, special church service, cultural carnival/football and traditional games competitions.
On Friday, March 9, there will be a special Jumat Service and anniversary lecture titled Repositioning the Traditional Institution and Local Government Administration in Contemporary Nigeria which will be delivered by Muhammad Sanusi II, The Emir of Kano at Western Sun International Hotel, Ede while Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola will be the chairman of the occasion.
At the grand finale on Saturday, March 10, there will be a book launch and fundraising for an ultra-modern palace for the Timi.
The Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the anniversary, Professor Siyan Oyeweso at a press conference said the significance of the celebration is to celebrate the development that have come to Edeland since the monarch ascended the throne 10 years ago.
He said: “It is significant that we celebrate our monarch because he is an upright monarch and when you look at the phenomena development in the last 10 year under him, you will agree with me that we must give kudos to his foresight and his effort in sustaining peace between Ede and its neighbouring communities”.
Oyeweso who mentioned Redeemer’s University, Adeleke University and Ilori College of Education which have found their feet in Edeland within 10 years of Oba Adesola’s rule, said the impact of these are phenomena and are worthy of celebration.
He also noted that Ede has always been a peaceful town where Muslims and Christians co-exist peacefully unlike many other communities, saying, “We invite other communities to come and learn how we have been addressing religious issues in this historic town”.
