The Chairman, Orolu Local Government of the State of Osun, Prince Adekunle Benson has said that 400 youths would be empowered in the council under the first phase of its Poverty Alleviation Programme.

He said that beneficiaries would be selected randomly with 40 beneficiaries from each of the 10 wards in the council with N10,000 monthly stipend.

According to him, apart from capital, developmental and physical projects, there would be a total empowerment of youths, women and farmers as well as other poverty alleviation programmes which would boost the economy to the extent that youths would be independent and engaged in meaningful activities.

According to a statement by his media assistant, Alao Waheed, the council boss gave the assurance recently during the general meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ifon Osun, Orolu local government council area.

Benson noted that the programme would mean that the council is complementing the efforts of the Federal and the state of Osun governments by injecting N4 million monthly into the economy of the council.

He noted that those engaged through OYES, N-Power, Civil service and party Excos would be totally exempted from the programme purposely to allow those that are not

The local government boss also warned party members and sympathisers not to be deceived by submitting themselves to those that believe in sharing of instant noodles to members as their empowerment programme.

According to him: “As we have promised to run a transparent government with full accountability, we have told all the stakeholders the total allocation received from the state level and we do not believe in giving out fishes to people but our priority is to teach people how to fish so that no one would be financially dependent”.

Benson also enjoined the entire people of Orolu LG to support and cooperate with his administration so that unprecedented developmental projects will be experienced in all the nooks and crannies of the council.

“We have been working assiduously together with all councillors to ensure dividends of democracy as well as give back to the society in a way that no one would be marginalised”.

He then eulogised the governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for continually changing the face of Osun to a brand new state, adding that history will never forget him.
