Sokoto Attack: Buhari Vows To Stop ‘Barbarians And Criminals’
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned an attack by bandits on a village in Sokoto State and vowed to spare no effort in stopping killings in the country.
The President also promised to ensure the bandits who killed several people, including a district head, in Gandi, a village in Rabah Local Government Area the state will be arrested.
“This administration will not allow any group of barbarians and criminals hold the country hostage and destroy life without consequences,” President Buhari was quoted as saying in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
“This wanton violence against innocent people won’t be tolerated by this government, and we are working round the clock to identify the people sponsoring these heartless attacks.”
The Federal Government has come under criticism over the attacks that have been launched on may parts of the country this year with many Nigerians losing their lives in the process.
President Buhari, however, insists his government has prioritized the killings.
“Make no mistake about it, my administration remains committed to security as one its core objectives, and any attempt to test our will by any group of anarchists and troublemakers will be met with equal force”, he warned.
President Buhari and Federal Government officials have repeatedly accused politicians of taking advantage of the herdsmen and farmers crisis in the country.
He believes “it is curious why any group of mass murderers would be targeting and killing innocent people for no just reason”.
Regardless of the motives behind the attacks and killings, the President assured Nigerians that “identifying and defeating these callous killers is receiving priority from this administration, and we shall spare no effort in tracing the root of this evil, especially their sources of funding and arms.”
He added, “I wish to assure all Nigerians that their security is receiving the greatest attention from this administration and there is no compromise in this commitment. I appeal for your patience while my security teams crack their brains to put an end to this horrendous violence.”
