Police Arraign 53-Year-Old Farmer Over Alleged Stealing Of N1.8million
The Police command in Osun has arraigned a 53-year-old man, Luke Oyelakinย before a Magistrate Court in Osogbo for allegedly stealing a sum of N1,837,43.
The sum is said to be the loan re-payment byย members of Achievers Farmers paid to him for remittances to the Bank of Industry.
Oyelakin was docked on Monday before Magistrate Falilat Sodamade on two count charges bothering on forgeryย and stealing.
The prosecutor, Mr Oladiran Ayodele, legal officer from Zone XI told the court that the accused committed the offence sometimes between the month of August 2017 and February 2018 at Osogbo.
Mr Ayodele alleged that the accused person fraudulently stole the sum of N1,837,43 being a loan re-payment by some members of Achievers Farmers paid to him for remittance to the Bank.
The accused who is also a farmer was alleged to have converted the money into his own use.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant forged some ย cash receipt documents of METISE Business Solutions ย Limited ย which he presented as genuine to be issuing for people.
He argued that the offence is contrary to Section 383(1) punishable under section 390 (9) ย and section 467 punishable under section 467 of the criminal code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2003.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the two count charges alleged against him.
The defence counsel, Mr Eze Ngwoke prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal and affordable terms.
Heย assured the court that his client will provide a credible and reliable surety to stand for him till the end of his trial.
The Magistrate, Mrs Falilat Sodamade granted the accused bail in the sum of N2million with two sureties.
Sureties are to swear to affidavit of means and provide evidence of landed property ownership within the court jurisdiction and the address to be verified by the police.
The case was adjourned to August 13 for hearing.
