President of Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC), Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi has said the body is against the return of public schools to former proprietors.

This, according to the Muslim leader, is because the government has spent public money to rebuild them into the state of the art hence cannot be given back to the original owners.

Olawuyi averred that since the take-over of schools by the government, all schools have become public asset with the government paying the salary of teachers and other workers.

The Islamic Cleric said this at the press conference heralding the activities marking 1440 AH New Islamic calendar at the OSMC Secretariat, West Bye Pass, Osogbo on Wednesday.

Among other activities lined up for the celebration of a new calendar year are Quranic competition, Jumat prayer service on Friday at the Osogbo Central Mosque and a colloquium on Saturday at the OSMC Secretariat Complex.

A thought provoking topic with the theme: Good Governance, Procedure and Process: Islamic Perspective will be discussed by renowned academics.

Olawuyi wondered why Nigerians are so interested in having as many as 91 registered political parties with 48 candidates contesting the Osun gubernatorial elections.

By his analysis, “China with over 1.4 billion people has only 7 political parties while India with 1.3 billion population has 11 parties. Nigeria with 180 million people has parties with more coming.

He noted that the country does not need more than maximum of 4 parties”.

The Islamic cleric then enjoined politicians to play by rules in the forthcoming gubernatorial election and accept the results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Olawuyi equally tasked the media especially the social not to announce election results not approved by INEC, as he charged voters who are yet to collect their permanent voters cards (PVC) to do so now.

Hijra, according to him, “is the movement of what is bad to what is good”.

He prayed Almighty Allah that “Osun State should have a free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful election”.
