The Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties in the State of Osun ACPP has thrown its weight behind last week’s governorship and Re-Run election in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the ACPP chairman, Prince Adesoji Masilo, the group lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for ensuring the transparency of the process.
The ACPP however berated the major opposition party in the state, People’s Democratic Party PDP for unprecedented vote Buying especially during the supplementary election.
The alliance urged the Governor-Elect, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola to be pragmatic to the course of developmental projects that will improve the condition of the people of Osun.
Masilo alleged that while some lapses were recorded with security agencies checkmating them, there were alleged manipulation and massive vote buying strategies by the PDP noting that Oyetola’s triumph in the polls is well-deserved.
The Osun ACPP chairman said “We are not unaware of some lapses, including the bogus votes returned in Ede, Iwo and Ile Ife. The results from Ede, we note with sadness, is more than the registered voters.”
“We hope INEC too has taken note and will avoid a situation where its staff would be overwhelmed by desperate politicians who want to win at all cost and will not mind subverting the electoral process.”
“We congratulate the people of Osun who have freely exercised their democratic right to choose their governor. We heard them loud and clear. The rest of us will go back to the drawing board and learn the right lessons on how to connect with the people, the way APC just did.
“We must let you know however, that we are appalled at the monetisation of this election by the PDP. While the rest of us were busy fashioning out strategy on how to connect with the people, PDP was busy spending money to buy voters’ cards, buy votes and corruptly influence security and electoral officials. This is condemnable, and we condemn it in its entirety.
The ACPP said the inconclusiveness and ordering of a re-run by INEC was the right thing to do with the 21 parties accepting the outcome as the legitimate reflection of the true wishes of the people.
The 21 Political Parties according to Masilo however urged the Governor-Elect, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola to run an all inclusive government and regard the entire state as his constituency.
