DSS Confirms Sowore’s Arrest
The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday confirmed that its operatives arrested Omoyele Sowore.
Sowore, the convener of planned Revolution Now protest against bad governance, was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday.
The political activist raised the alarm in a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am which reads, “DSS invades Sowore’s apartment.”
DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, while addressing reporters in Abuja Sunday afternoon, said Sowore was taken into custody because he called for a revolution in Nigeria, The Nation reports.
The spokesperson said the secret police was “aware” of information that Sowore had been in touch with foreign actors to destabilise Nigeria.
The DSS official, however, declined to give details on where Sowore was being kept and when he would be arraigned in court.
