The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has urged the 2018 Miss Nigeria, Chidinma Aaron, to use her position to promote integrity and transparency amongst Nigerian youths, especially girls.
The Minister gave the charge when the beauty queen, in company of the the MD of Daily Times Aliu Akosile, paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday.
“As one of the three cardinal points in the SET agenda of the Ministry, transparency is one area we can partner with you. By virtue of your status, you are in a vantage position to influence our youths, particularly the girls to do the right things always, so as to bring integrity and dignity to womanhood“. According to the Minister, this is particularly important since the character of a child, whether a boy or a girl, is moulded by the mother.
The Minister also recalled the nostalgic period of Daily Times of time past, when the entire media space in the country was illuminated by Daily Times, through the publication of its sister editions like Drum, Spear and Boom amongst others.
On the Miss Nigeria pageant, the Minister noted the dignified way Daily Times has always conducted the beauty contest, which was to promote the best of Nigerian culture.
He commended the new MD for toeing the same line. He however noted the huge responsibilities and tasks, the new MD must live up to.
The MD assured the Minister of the support of the Daily Times stable in the coverage of the Ministry’s activities.
Responding, the 2018 Miss Nigeria, Chidinma Aaron, stated that she is currently running a social project which aimed at promoting girls and children welfare.
According to her, the initiative which is tagged the Green Girl Project, started with interest in sustainable environment and how Nigerian girls can protect themselves and their families. She expressed delight in informing the Minister about her vision to partner with the Ministry in its Correctional duty.
She consequently sought the support and guidance of the Ministry.
