Apero: APC Chieftain Calls For Govt’s Intervention In Agric Sector

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ifelodun Local Government, Kehinde Olagunju, has called on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to help farmers in the area with the needed supports and materials for them to fully go into commercial farming.
Olagunju spoke with OSUN DEFENDER at the civic engagement programme of the state government tagged Apero which was held on Tuesday at the Akinorun High School, Ikirun, State of Osun for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency.
According to Olagunju, commercial farming would help to improve the economy of the federal constituency and by extension that of the state.
He stated that residents of the federal constituency are largely farmers and there is need for the state government to concentrate more effort on the agriculture sector.
Olagunju said, “This federal constituency is largely an agrarian area; even people from other federal constituencies come here to farm. We want the government of the day to concentrate more of its effort on the agriculture sector to develop this federal constituency.
“Our people here are very passionate about farming and most of our people here engage in subsistence farming which cannot help the economy of this environment. We need to fully go into commercial farming so that the federal constituency can produce raw materials for the industrial sector.
“We want the government to help in the commercialization of farming in the area. This is what we want.”
He commended the governor putting together such programme, saying it would allow the government to meet the need of the people.
“I appreciate the initiator of this programme it will afford people in the state the opportunity to relate with their governor. It is a step in the right direction.
“We have what we call the bottom-up communication approach which affords the people the opportunity to tell the governor what they lack. This will in turn allow the government to match the people’s need with the available resources in the state”, he stated.
Also, Prince Kola Afolabi, a participant at the event said the government must make the civic engagement count by dispassionately analyzing issues pointed out at the gathering.
He said: “Communication is in two ways, you talk to the people and you get feedback. This will help the government to get connected and reconnect itself to the people. Whatever promise they make they should be able to do it.”
