Lockdown: UNIOSUN Donates Relief Package To Osun Residents
As part of her commitment to complementing the efforts of the state government to stem the spread of pandemic COVID-19 disease, the management of Osun State University has distributed relief packages to the six host communities of the institution.
The institution on Friday distributed palliative materials include 50 bags of Rice, 35 bags of Beans, 15 bags of Garri, 600 bags of 2.5kg Semovita and eggs to the vulnerable ones in the six host communities of the the University through the traditional rulers.
It will be recalled that the University started series of campaigns to enlighten the general public on the mode of transmission and safety measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in different languages.
The university also distributed 65ml alcohol-based hand sanitizers to the public and sponsored radio jingles on transmission and safety measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in five major languages: English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Pidgin which are now being relayed in differents broadcast stations in the state.
Speaking on the distribution of the palliative measures, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola said, “Uniosun is supporting government’s and others’ effort at providing stimulus to the needy in our host communities. I persuaded my colleagues in management and other officers in the university to sacrifice our April Communication and Fuelling Allowances for the purchase of foodstuffs for the vulnerable in our six host communities (100 units of a package containing 2kg each of rice, 2.5kg of semovita, garri, beans and eggs for each community). This is to cushion the possible effect of the 2weeks lockdown.
We hereby implore the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief package during the lockdown as we believe that the host community monarchs will share the package accordingly,” Professor Popoola added.
While receiving the relief materials for Osogbo, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Jimoh Oyetunji, Larooye II applauded and said the palliatives will support the government’s effort to ensure people were relieved during the 2-week lockdown.
He thanked the management of the institution for the initiative which according to the king will reduce hunger in the community and promised to distribute the palliative to the widows, disabled and elderly people in the community.
He urged philanthropists and organizations in the state who have been doing such before to help government during this trying period for a better society.
Ataoja said, “we have been trying our best but the little we have cannot circulate. I am grateful to the management of the institution for coming out during this time of agony to help the community.
