24-Year-Old Arraigned In Court For Assaulting IBEDC Staff

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 24-year-
old man, Abiola Abdulsalam before a
magistrate’s court, sitting in Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun for allegedly assaulting a staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) while on duty.
Abdulsalam was arraigned on a count charge of assault.
The accused person, according to the prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo unlawfully assault one Oladepo Kemisola while performing her duty as IBEDC staff by using slippers to beat her to the extent that she sustained injury on her right finger.
Fagboyinbo alleged that the suspect committed the offence on May 4, 2020 at about 12:05 pm at Dada Estate area Osogbo.
He said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II of Osun State Law, 2002.
Abdulsalam, while pleading not guilty to the charge, told the court that the IBEDC staff came to their house to disconnect their electricity for alleged bypassing of metre.
According to him, the situation generated arguments and in the course, the complainant slapped him on the face.
The suspect maintained that he did not beat Kemisola but tried to use the pair of slippers to defend himself; which led to the injury she sustained on her hand.
But Kemisola denied slapping the suspect.
Defence counsel, Funsho Muritala, pleaded with the court to release the suspect on bail on a liberal term.
The presiding Magistrate, Dr. Oluwasegun Ayilara granted bail to the suspect in sum of N50, 000 with two sureties, just as he adjourned the case till June 9, 2020 for mentioning.
