Aย socio-cultural organization, the Ikoyi Osun Action Council (IOAC) hasย condemned in totality the bloody clash between members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Oodua Peoples Congress Initiative (OPCI), which claimed lives and properties in Ikoyi, Isokan Local Government area of the State of Osun.

The IOAC called on law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits of the clash that resulted into the death of two people to book.

According to the group, in a press release jointly signed by Asiwaju of Ikoyi kingdom, Dr. Hamid Raheem and Community Secretary, Alhaji Olasupo Muhali, the council said it was worrying and saddening that such violent act could happen in Ikoyi, which is known for peace.

It could be recalled that members of the rivalry OPC and OPCI in the community on Sunday, June 7, 2020 launched attack on one another, which led to unrest and tension in both Ikoyi and Apomu communities.

The council described as brutal and barbaric, the killing of a prominent indigene of Ikire, Bolaji Oyeniyi, popularly known as Gbajero, who was a native doctor and that of one other person in the clash.

A copy of the press release made available to OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday reads: โ€œThe council is deeply worried about the rising tension in the community due to activities of some unscrupulous elements who are hell-bent on breaching the peace of the community.

โ€œIt is not an overstatement that Ikoyi indigenes are known for peace, love, hardwork. These virtues are more cherished than to expose the hitherto respected ancient community to ridicule.โ€

The council, however, charged parents, religious bodies, social organizations and others to educate their children, wards and followers on sound moral and befitting manners that characterize enviable societies.
