The House of Representatives has ordered its committee on Aviation to investigate Maxi Air and Aero Contractors over recent accidents involving their planes.
According to a motion moved by Umar Bala from Kano State, Max Air flight carrying 140 passengers including the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero had an engine failure on Tuesday.
Recall that Osun Defender had yesterday reported that Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and scores of other passengers escaped death after the engine of a Max Air aircraft flying the Kano-Abuja route failed.
It was gathered that the fault was noticed 10 minutes after take-off from the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
He explained that Aero Contractors flight also suffered a bird strike that almost led to a crash involving 90 passengers.
According to him, “despite the echoing of a large strange sound at the point of take-off by the Max aircraft the pilot and his crew dismissed any feeling of insecurity and took off.
“In view of several issues of conflict between birds and aircrafts causing accidents and deaths, best practices ensure the use of Bird Strike Avoidance Radars to avoid such unfortunate situations
“Bird strikes are increasingly becoming recurring incidents in our airports with reports suggesting more of these cases prevalent at the Aminu Kano International Airport.”
The lawmakers mandated the committee to investigate allegations of negligence against the two airlines.
