The Osun Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) lost out at the party’s national convention as former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja defeated former Governor of the state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola to emerge the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP.
Arapaja was declared the winner after winning with 2,004 votes to defeat Oyinlola who garnered 705 votes. In total, 3,511 voters were accredited and 165 votes voided.
The former Oyo deputy governor was declared winner of the poll by the chairman of the National Convention and Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri at about 4 am on Sunday, 31st of October 2021 at Eagles Square, Abuja
Recall that ahead of the convention, the state of the Osun chapter of the party had endorsed Oyinlola as the consensus candidate from Osun after the initial tussle between him and Professor Wale Oladipupo.
In a statement signed by the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, former PDP candidate in the Osun 2018 gubernatorial election, Ademola Adeleke, and a former National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, the party leaders insisted that the resolution that micro-zoned the position to Osun remained the same.
Eventually, the endorsement did not count as state governors appear to be calling the shots of happenings in the party.
After this victory, It’s expected that the new PDP Deputy National Chairman, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja will resign his position as the Southwest Zonal Chairman of the party.
