RESIDENTS of Ede and Apomu in Isokan Local Government of the State of Osun have registered their displeasure, following an announcement made by the state government to embark on reconstruction of 10 major township roads in some selected areas of the state.
The residents of the two towns expressed their dissatisfaction over what they described as improper treatment of their areas by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola led administration.
It would be recalled that the state government last weekend announced the reconstruction of ten major township roads among which are 12km LAMECO- Ifon road, 3.9km Inisa township road, Baruwa, Iso Alata in Osogbo, Ilesa township, Okinni road, among others.
The government also approved the immediate spot rehabilitation of Ipetumodu – Ode-Omu road, Ondo road, Itamerim, Ifetedo, Wesley Guild Hospital, Oke-Iro road, Ilesa, School of Health Technology, Express Way, Orogboji – Ayegbaju – Iwikun- Iyinta – Iwara – Ifewara road, Itaakogun – Itaofa – General hospital – Isale General road, Ilesa among other towns.
Apomu, Ede, Ikonifin, Obaagun, Oluponna, Ejigbo, Oba, Oyan, Ora-Igbomina, Ibokun and towns and communities were excluded in the new road reconstruction and rehabilitation approval.
Residents of the aforementioned areas have taken to the social media to complain about the poor state of the roads in their communities, wondering why the government did not pay attention to them.
Residents of Ede and Apomu specifically spoke with OSUN DEFENDER on Wednesday, urging the state government to fix their bad roads.
They accused the government of not prioritising their communities in its infrastructure plan.
A resident of Apomu, Adesina Oyebamiji, said it is unfortunate that the town has been neglected for over 12 years, asking if the town does not exist on the state map.
Another resident of the town, Rabiu Ridwan, while expressing dissatisfaction on the poor condition of the roads in the town, called on Governor Oyetola to consider the town in his road construction project.
Mr. Ebenezer Adeshola, a resident of Ede, said: “The government should consider Ede in road construction. Our roads are bad and are begging for attention. We thank the governor for his intervention on Ogberin junction because the road was already condemned.
Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, a resident of Ikonifin in Ola-Oluwa local government, Oludare Oluremi noted that the Ikonifin – Ife-Odan road is currently in a bad condition.
Oluremi added that the road links some villages and will be a serious challenge during the rainy season as farmers will find it difficult to convey their farm produce to the market.
