SWAN Elects New National Officers
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has elected new national officers to pilot the affairs of the association.
The election took place during the just concluded National Triennial Delegates Conference, held at Omoku, Rivers State on Thursday.
The former chairman of Kaduna State SWAN, Benjamin Isaiah emerged the National President of the association.
He defeated his opponent, Abubakar Adamu Sadiq with a wide mergine of 16 votes to 6 votes.
Declaring him the winner of the election, the electoral chairman, Sunday Ugule, said, “having secured the highest vote, I hereby declare Benjamin Isaiah as the National President of SWAN.”
Also, elected was the Deputy President, Bonny Nyong, Secretary, Ikenna Victor Okonkwo, Financial Secretary, Ijeoma Peter Nwante, Vice President South South, Azuka Ralph Chiemeka, Vice President South West, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, vise President South East, Frankie Omokua, Welfare, Austin Ajayi and many others.
In his acceptance speech, Isaiah commended Sirawoo, SWANECO and all delegates for electing him, assured his determination to move the association forward.
While assuring to run an inclusive administration, he seeked support of everybody and appealed with those that couldn’t make it to accept defeat and work together for the benefit of the association.
Earlier, during the general NEC meeting, the immediate past President of SWAN, Honour Sirawoo announced Hon. Felix Amaechi Obua as the National Patron of the association.
Sirawoo said the choice of Obua as patron of the great association was based on his support and positive contributions to the development of SWAN, adding that it was a reward for his significant contribution.
Responding, the newly appointed national Patron of SWAN Obuah appreciated SWAN for honouring him, promising not to relent in his unalloyed support to the sports writers professionals.
Obuah who has served as council chairman of Ogba–Egbema–Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, advised contestants to accept the outcome of the SWAN election in good fate and work together to move the association to enviable heights.
He reaffirmed commitment to sports development through continuous sponsorship of sporting activities in his state and even in the country to promote national integration.
