Kogi Poll: Police, Others Injured As APC, SDP Supporters Engage In Gun Duel
Ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Kogi state, supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Social Democratic Party in Idah Local Government area of the state on Wednesday engaged in a gun battle, leaving many people injured.
Osun Defender gathered that the clash also led to the destruction of vehicles while some individuals, including a police officer, sustained bullet wounds.
The spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, while confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha has ordered an investigation into the incident.
Aya stated that the CP while condemning the incident, stressed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked to commence investigations.
“The CP reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to continue to engage the critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for the electoral process.
”Command is ever determined in providing a level playing ground for all Political Parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, procession among others,” the statement said.
