Check Staff Redundancy, Adeleke Charges NULGE

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has charged the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), in the state, to check redundancy among members of staff in various local governments in the state.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, made the call in Osogbo, at the grand finale of the 2023 NULGE week and award presentation ceremony.

He said that the union cannot have any problem with the administration stressing that their needs are already known before they asked.

Adeleke assured the union that all their requests would be attended to as some of the principal officers of the administration including his deputy were former local government chairmen.

The Governor said: “I want to sincerely thank NULGE in the state at least for making it possible to work with them harmoniously to achieved all we have achieved in few months.

“I don’t believe NULGE will have much problem with this administration because before you asked all your needs have been known because I was a former local government chairman.

“As a former local government chairman too, I want to observe that there is still low performance from some members of staff. If you go to some local government, you asked after some of these officers in Osun state, they are either in Ibadan or Lagos transacting their business. I want the NULGE leadership to look into this aspect”.

NULGE National President, Olatunji Ambali, commended the governor for making life comfortable for local government workers in Osun state.

Olatunji called for financial autonomy of local governments saying it is from a local government that political leaders should be chosen.

He said until local government is granted autonomy will Nigerian has functional purposeful people driven local government.

He also asked for the rescucitation of local government loan board for easy access for local government workers.

Ealier in his welcome address, Osun NULGE President, Dr. Kehinde Ogungbaigbe appreciated the Governor for not only extending his hands of fellowship and touching the lives of local government workers in the state but his unrelenting efforts in ensuring that Osun regained its deserved status.
