Stand-Up Order: Obasanjo Prostrates For Me, Had Personal Issues With One Of The Monarchs – Oluwo
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had a personal score to settle with one of the monarchs he ordered to stand up in Iseyin, Oyo State in September.
Oluwo noted that Obasanjo is a respectful and well-cultured Yoruba elder who has high regard for the traditional institutions, adding that the ex-president decided to scold the monarch he had an issue with at the event.
It would be recalled that Obasanjo in mid-September, gave the order that the Obas should “stand and sit” at an event in Iseyin, Oyo State.
Oba Akanbi was one of the first to condemn the act, calling on Obasanjo to tender an apology.
But the monarch during an exclusive interview with Vanguard, said Obasanjo is a well-cultured man, adding that he had prostrated for him before in one of their meetings, adding that he is also principled.
He said, “Baba Obasanjo is a well-cultured man. He had come here before and prostrated before me. I think what happened in that place was a personal issue between him and a king who talked about him.
“And Baba didn’t know where to scold that king and I don’t think he could have done that. So, he decided to scold him right there.
“Baba Obasanjo is a very good man and well-respected elder. He respects traditional institutions too. So, that’s why I came out at that time. I needed to do that at that time.”
